Off-Season Phase (OSP)

April – June | 12-Week Program

The Off-Season Phase (OSP) is part of Commit Goaltending’s Long-Term Development Program (LTDP). This phase runs through the spring months and is designed to help goaltenders make real progress through structured weekly training, clear teaching, and intentional repetition—without the pressure of weekly games.

The Off-Season Phase is dedicated to skill acquisition. This is where we teach new skills, refine key details, and improve body mechanics through high-quality repetitions. Goaltenders get the time and coaching support they need to learn properly, build confidence in the movements, and begin adopting these new skills into their game.

Who This Program Is For

The Off-Season Phase is built for goaltenders who want to train with purpose and improve the right way. This program is a strong fit for goalies who:

  • Want consistent coaching and a clear development plan

  • Are ready to learn new skills and improve technical habits

  • Learn best through structured progression and individual feedback

  • Want to build confidence heading into summer training and tryouts

This program supports goaltenders of various ages and skill levels. Each athlete is coached based on their current ability, experience, and goals—not a one-size-fits-all system.

Program Structure

The Off-Season Phase combines on-ice training with off-ice education so goaltenders understand what they are working on and why it matters.

Weekly On-Ice Training

  • 75-minute on-ice session once per week

  • Progressive curriculum designed for skill acquisition

  • Focus on technical details, body mechanics, and game-ready execution

  • Coaching, correction, and repetition built into every session

Weekly Online Classroom

  • 60-minute online classroom session once per week

  • Video concepts, goalie education, and structured learning

  • Helps athletes understand the “why” behind what they’re training

  • Supports stronger carryover from practice to game situations

Physical Development Journal

Each athlete receives a physical journal to support:

  • Reflection and weekly focus

  • Goal setting and progress tracking

  • Accountability and mental habits

  • Confidence-building routines

Training Environment & Coaching Standards

Commit Goaltending is built on quality, not volume. The Off-Season Phase is structured so every goalie receives real coaching—not just ice time.

  • Maximum of 6 goaltenders per group

  • 2:1 goalie-to-coach ratio (where applicable)

  • Shooters provided to support proper pacing, shot quality, and realistic execution

Why the Off-Season Phase Matters

Spring is where goaltenders have the best opportunity to learn and improve. With fewer games and less outside pressure, athletes can focus on development that actually sticks.

The Off-Season Phase gives goaltenders the time and structure to:

  • Learn new skills with clear coaching and repetition

  • Improve technical habits and body mechanics

  • Build confidence through consistent progress

  • Enter summer training with momentum and direction

How the Off-Season Phase Fits Into the LTDP

The Long-Term Development Program (LTDP) is Commit Goaltending’s year-round model built around three phases:

  • In-Season Phase (October – March): Support performance and development during the season

  • Off-Season Phase (April – June): Skill acquisition, technical growth, and repetition in the spring

  • Pre-Season Phase (July – September): Structured preparation for tryouts and competitive seasons

The Off-Season Phase is the bridge between the season and summer training. It sets the foundation for what goaltenders will sharpen and apply in the Pre-Season Phase.
